Job title: Orphans and other Vulnerable Children (OVC) Coordinator at OLPS

Job Summary: The coordinator will Serve as the lead for the project implementation, overseeing all programming and coordination of programming, and ensure strong communication and coordination with and between all project members as a means to effectively achieve program objectives. S/he will also be mandated to implement a strong OVC program and deliver quality OVC care and support services for OLPS. The Program Coordinator directs and supervises the social workers and community assistants.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. The OVC Coordinator will initiate the development of an operation plan for implementing OVC activities and set high quality performance targets ensuring adherence to technical standards, best practices and donor guidelines.
  2. Develop comprehensive work plans and budgets for the OVC section, track progress on work plans, budget expenditure and provide recommendations on challenges that arise during implementation of OVC activities,
  3.  Conduct frequent field visits to support OLPS and partner staff in program implementation and use this learning to modify programming as necessary in order to meet project targets and objectives and to improve OVC program quality, 
  4. Document new developments in the area of OVC and align them to OLPS proposed activities during OVC programming in line with Minimum Service Standards for Quality Improvement of OVC Programmes Kenya and PEPFAR OVC guidance, 
  5. Ensure the implementation of a strong M&E system, using tools and resources to maximize project impact on beneficiaries, 
  6. Provide guidance to staff to ensure appropriate use of M&E tools and systems most appropriate for the project to generate timely, reliable data that informs project decision-making, captures project impact, and meets OLPS and donor reporting, 
  7. Periodically assess capacity gaps and initiate training of OVC care takers in sustainable livelihood initiatives in line with the capacity building program, 
  8. Responsible for the development of strategies for mentoring social workers to deliver quality OVC services in line with the standard policies and procedures, 
  9. Ensure effective linkages between key stakeholders, implementing partners, and OLPS to provide quality service to beneficiaries with a focus on sustainability,
  10.  Hold regular meetings with staff to discuss and track progress, 
  11. Submit timely and accurate reports related to progress and other reports as required to the Director for onward submission to the donor.

Personal Competencies

  1. Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage a variety of activities concurrently and also work as an effective team member, 
  2. Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision, 
  3. Able to prioritize work, multi-task, and meet deadlines, 
  4. Sets clear goals and manages toward them

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  1. The OVC Coordinator must hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social Administration, social sciences or any other related field, 
  2. Prior OVC work experience preferred, 
  3. Excellent written and oral English communication skills, 
  4. Good leadership, organizational and planning skills, 
  5. Good understanding of the Children’s Act, National OVC Policy and the PEPFAR OVC guidance, 
  6. Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power point
